I couldn't think of what to do. But the vice of chronic boredom has no effect on me. So basically, I just played my banjo. I'm pretty good at the banjo. Country music is the current style, so I thought learning how to play the banjo would effectivelly put me on top. I could easily fit in. It's all about friends right now. They say it's not about what you know, but who you know. If that's the case I'm doing all right. Jeremy and Nicole, and Jered and Allison, Steve, Erin, and me. It's kind of wierd but we just licked in Sophomore year. Erin's the only one that doesn't have a free period with us. Allison is usually off with Jered. We hang out and do work, talk about sports. We're normal. Sometimes we get together after school and play some stuff. I'm on banjo, Steve's on keyboard, Jeremy and Nicole sing, Allison can actually play the fiddle (so Jeremy picked up bass), and Erin plays the synthesizer. Country music on a synthesizer is really wierd. Anyway, that's me. That's us.
School's boring. I won't tell you anything you don't need to know about. I had normal classes just like every other day. English homework is so boring. Same routine... Thursday night - brush my teeth and in bed at 11:00. Ok, so maybe I'm a little boring.
I got up that day at 7:00, get ready for school, drive to school, do school. When I got home my mom was crying, which was unusual. I'm used to a stable, normal, good family.
"Your grandpa's dead."
This came as a complete surprise to me. I knew that guy was gonna kick the bucket sometime. But not now... So... I go over to hug her. I wonder if she's trying to think of the last thing she said to him too, or if she thought about that already. She wasn't talking about it if so.
"He was s-shot. Today."
"Oh God... Who did it?"
My thoughts were spilling out of my mouth. I mean, we weren't too close or anything but, Hell, he was my grandpa. I wanted to kill that son of a bitch.
"We don't know...", she says, pausing before continuing, "We're still having it investigated. The lawyers are going over his will."
I stayed there, hugging my mom and trying to think of the last time I talked with him. I can't even remember. So I finally go up to my room to try to relax. What can I do? Not relax either, I guess. This question is imprinted upon every thought, blocking out any other. Finally I find myself thinking one last thought. As I fall asleep it barely registers as that he died on a good day of the week. What...?
