Why School Sucks

Basically, I had to write an acrostic poem, using my name, for school. I decided to overachieve to show off that this is ridiculously elementary, and then kind of turned it into a rant. It's kind of like when I had to do something for poetry.com to get access to a website, and the entry couldn't be more than 20 lines, so I wrote a poem about how stupid a 20-line limit was.

It would be more eloquent, but I was too lazy to put the last lines in meter, and I only spent about five minutes on the whole thing anyway. I can't wait to see what the grade is on it.

EDIT: Blah. Five out of five. Just a stupid submission-points extra-credit thing. I bet nobody even read it. Oh, well.

EDITED AGAIN: Turns out my local teacher was the one who did the grading, and it wasn't just completion. She read all my little this-assignment-sucks rants, and gave me points based on how well they were written, regardless of whether they fulfilled the requirements. Ka-CHING!

Tenaciously, I write a poem sweet,

Acrostically, I fill requirements bleak.

Nostalgically, I ponder poems passed

In elementary contexts, forums vast

Though overuse of adverbs can amuse,

Hysteric use of meter contradicts;

Lines flow, words mix, with apathy I write.

In overachievement, this I affix.

New broadcasts of contempt for public school,

My skill with poetry collides against

Unheard-of, strong disdain for this plain art;

Respectable authors, their own talent sensed,

Pass merit with the concepts of their skill.

How dare we underestimate the will of

Youthful talent, oppressed from K through 12,

Barely scraping through such mundane hell?

I think, essentially, that it's ridiculous for students who have proven literary e

Xcellence to have to do lame assignments like this.

But I suppose the expectations in this country are just that low.

You people, honestly, why do gifted kids have to do this kind of crap assignment?

Three others like this.

Well, I sort of liked it, and I agree with the expectations - seriously the only reasons preps get good grades is because the standard is so god damn low. Come to think of it, thanks stupid people with no ambition, that's the only reason I'm passing some of my classes. Because I can ride the wave. Amerika.

BY THE WAY THANK YOU FOR VOTING FOR PIECES YOU LIKE.

By the way, are you being vain in the last line? I mean come on... gifted seems kind of a loaded word...

It's not vain when other people tell you it every five minutes . . .

^ My philosophy exactly. I get told I'm smart way, way too much (especially because it's always followed with "You should quit smoking pot and go back to school!").
