Hamlet II: Something Rotten in the State of Denmark
Mon, 30 Mar 2009 at 01:08am
Act 1, Scene 1
Horatio: Some six months hence a tragedy did take
my lord Hamlet, still in his prime of youth,
from service of his country men - and I,
being best vers'ed in affairs of state
have settled into business of the realm.
There's been a quiet following that storm,
which, by report of gentlemen hath found
it's end. This self-same curs'ed parapet
where once the great Dane's father's spec'tral ghost
did plead the course of its piteous end,
has of late cost us sev'ral good watchmen.
Here were they found, left bloodied, mangled, dead.
Something strange was on their bones - marks of teeth
as though some great and fearsome animal,
late escaped from more terrific climes,
did ravage them, consuming flesh and brains.
So came I here alone, despite counsel
to examine the cause of these effects.
(Enter Zombie Claudius)
Sir! The kingdom knows you dead! How came you,
wretched murthrer, to walk again this place?
The prince hamlet did in vengeance slay thee,
as thou did engineer his father's death
in order to bed his wife, your sister.
Z.C: (shambles idly) Braaaaaains.
Horatio: Brains, villain? All the win in all the world
are no protection against rapier's point.
Draw, sir, draw thy sword and prepare thyself
God shall forgive, and my honour shall venge.
Z.C: Braaains. Braains.
Horatio: honourless cur! You refuse to face me?
Z.C: (catches sight of Horatio) Braaaaains!
Horatio: Ah, now do you advance? Draw your weapon.
Why do you continue to advance?
Hold your ground! Hold your ground, come no further!
(Exeunt, Horatio fleeing)
