Sunshine Days, Cadillac Black

untitled
I was going you to tell you,
That day under the sunshine glow,
On that bridge over the lake.
You jumped into the water below,
Into the cold depths we went to partake
In laughter, kisses, and play
And my thoughts went astray.
I wanted to tell you,
That afternoon at the park,
Where reality was captured,
In the light of a camera’s spark.
Smiles, poses, and our bodies enraptured.
My heart had only one thing to say,
My mind did not want to change that day.
I was going to tell you,
That night in the glare of the light,
And of a sonic wash so enveloping.
The concert’s beat took flight,
And my impulse started developing
When the cops arrived in ton,
And the music was done.
I wanted to tell you,
But the phone rang,
And my mother cried out.
And my heart went bang
At the news I could live without.
I was going to tell you,
But the crowd was in Cadillac black,
And we held the tears back
No longer as your father took a bow,
And kissed your brow,
One last time.
The aura was so sublime,
And peaceful where you slept.
Soundly and forever kept
In that casket upon which I wept.
I wanted to tell you,
I love you.
