life

We dug our toes into the sand and sighed.
The moon was looking just as lovely as it always does on any night and it especially looked lovely reflecting off the ocean.
He sat to the left of me and she sat to the right.
We were friends and I felt comfortable with them.
Comfortable enough to just spend a friday night on the beach, having a bon fire, and smoking strawberry cigars.
"What do you think?" He asked blowing scented smoke into the wind.
"About what?" She replied.
"Life, or whatever," he smirked "whatever this is. What do you think happens afterwards?"
I layed back on the blanket behind me, they followed.
I spoke just as softly as we've been talking the whole night. Even though no one was around for miles, we felt like people could walk by any possible minute and accuse us of knowing nothing about what we were talking about, which isn't true ofcourse, I wouldn't hang out with unintelligent people.
"I think..." I thought for a second. I didn't know what to say actually. "I think nothing. I guess I think what actually happens, we just shut down, and see blackness for eternity. We won't know, we'll be dead anyway."
They were silent.
"That'd be a disappointment."
"Yeah." She agreed.
We were quiet for a few seconds until I decided to speak again.
"Or, we finally wake up."
I could feel them thinking about it, which is an impossible feeling to feel. But I really did. I could feel their minds inside wondering if what I just said could actually be true.
"That wouldn't be a disappointment." He sat back up to smoke a Camel.
"Like, this is all a dream and when we die, that's when we, how you say, wake up and then we actually experience life." She extended her hand out and he handed her the cigarette.
I sat up. "I like that."
"Like what?" They both asked.
"I like this being a dream." I replied as he handed me the cigarette. "This whole thing, right now," I pointed to the ground, "will be a great dream to tell my friends and my parents and a great dream to write and make millions off of. I would tell my dream to everyone. Anyone."
We all layed back down at the same time, threw the finished cigerette into the fire, and let out a long, quiet, "Yeah."
