I used to hate this town with a passion. Well, hate isn't exactly the right word... For more than twenty years, I've had an inexplicable urge to ignore it and most anyone and anything in it. I denied its existence to myself, and spoke with voices either hushed and embarrassed or horribly faux-enthusiastic whenever I couldn't sneak my way out of any conversation where it was bound to be mentioned. I was never sincere about it - it didn't deserve sincerity.
But however I felt (and feel) about my town, I did (and do) it with a passion.
