"Oh."

A/N: In case anyone who knows me stumbles across this, yeah, I used names of REAL people. No, this situation never happened to my knowledge. I just needed NAMES.

------------------------------------

He rolled over in his bed. The incessant ringing wasn't stopping. Just ignore it. Just ignore it. he willed himself. A pause in the ringing made him sigh in relief. But that's all it was, a pause. He ignored it again, pulling the covers over his head.

However, he was awake now, and aggravated. He decided he might as well get up. He picked up his cell phone. The LED screen glared at him and he squinted to read it, "27 Missed Calls." All from her, he assumed. He looked at his clock, which was currently flashing. Oh good, I lost power.

He checked his phone again. Okay, so maybe the piece of junk DID come in handy sometimes. 5:58am. Why the HELL would anyone need to call him this early? The ringing started again, this time, he answered.

"Damnit, Leslie. It's six in the fucking morning, don't you sleep?" Okay, he hadn't meant to be THAT bitter. But it was early! He didn't even have his coffee!

"Adam... Where were you last night?" she asked, shakily.

He sighed. Not this, not now. "I went to the bar with Marty, we watched the game, and I came home."

"Just with Marty?"

"Yes, Leslie. JUST with Marty. Fucking call him if you don't believe me. He drove."

"But Lisa said-"

"Lisa said? Since when do you believe a word that comes out of Lisa's mouth?" Adam lit a cigarette. He pawed around the nightstand for his glasses. "Besides, Lisa was probably out with Joe. She and Marty haven't spoken in a few weeks now." Glasses! Success! Now coffee, coffee is good. Maybe a shotgun. Yes, that would be nice too.

"Oh," came the quiet voice.

"Oh? Damnit Les, how long have you been calling me?"

"Don't start, please. I hate it when we fight."

"I'm starting? FUCK!" he exclaimed as he stubbed his toe on the door frame as he exited his room. "Shit that hurt... I'm starting? Leslie. I love you, you know that. But it's six in the morning, and you've already called me twenty eight times. I am running on three hours of sleep, I have not had my coffee. Can we do this later." He rolled his eyes. Women. Now, to make it to the kitchen without any more injuries!

"I just need to know that you weren't with Britt," she had started crying.

"Leslie, sweetie. Britt is in Bermuda. Last time I checked, I am not. Now get some sleep. I'll call you later?"

"How do you know that?"

Adam gritted his teeth in frustration. Damnit, this was ridiculous. Make one drunken mistake, and be grilled for eternity. This is why I should stop drinking... Or maybe just drink myself into a coma? "Because she went with Aly, and if Jesse doesn't shut up about it, I'm going to skull-fuck him."

Well, he wasn't lying. But really, what did it matter if he had talked to Britt? They had been friends for awhile, and neither of them were letting what happened get to them.

"Oh."

"Now get some sleep, I'll call you later, okay? Promise."

"Okay." And the line went dead. No "I love you", not even a "bye." Stupid, stupid girls. He poured himself a cup of coffee, and lit another cigarette.

Unhealthy relationship, that. I can't really sympathize with either of the characters here, but that's hardly an issue. That Adam seems a fast smoker, though, and smoking, drinking coffee, and making a phone call all at the same time... I mean, I get that you're trying to flesh him out and everything, but it seems... Too much, perhaps.

Coffee wasn't until after the phone call. And most people I know are fast smokers, unless they aren't actually smoking the cigarette. Just letting it burn. Sadly, I sympathize with Leslie in this scenario. BUT MY ADAM WAS A CHEATING, LYING BASTARD. Not a tired, frustrated asshole.

You're right about the coffee, I must've misread the first time. I like it more now. And I timed my last cigarette break (by song) and it took me 5 minutes :p

That was a great one. It had some real feeling to it, and every moment I felt for both characters, even though it was in a first person narrative. I like stories like this quite a bit. It reads a bit like another of your character studies, but it almost seems to have another level to it. I dunno...

AND very dramatic, but not overtly so. Lifelike.

You need to keep going with this. Like now. The only reason I don't like it, is because I don't have anything to read on.
