Really, neo? Really?

Yes, well, since IF2, things have gone pretty quiet.

IF has also moved out of my needs and wants. I no longer have any personal desire to use it.

For these reasons, I've decided to change IF rather radically.

I've resolved to make IF a lot simpler, and a lot simpler. Things like messages, hierarchical categories, complex profiles, suchlike, will all go. Stars will go, semantic rating will go (what the hell was I thinking?).

That's right, IF has been acquired by Facebook™.

That was a lie. But things will be moving in that direction. There'll also be some integration with such things as Facebook and mobile devices.

Ideally it won't take more than six months, since I'm really going to emphasise simplicity. Think functionalist architecture.

Thoughts? Ideas?

I do agree that IF2 is a little overly complicated but getting rid of stuff like stars and ratings would change IF for the worse.

And what exactly do you mean when you say a 'facebook direction'?

I completely like the direction youre going with this. What made IF1 so great was it's simplicity.

IF2 two really was absurdly complex...  it's almost ilariously complex, wen I tink about it.

(A certain key is broken on my keyboard. I aven't te patience to splice it in were it's needed. It's quite an interesting experience all-round. Try reading it out loud, in Russian, Frenc, Carribean, watever you like. It's fun.)

Anyway.

So IF3 is. Pretty muc.

I've put up a version for you guys to test. So far wat is missing is tis:
  • Registration
  • Email cange
  • Introductions and elp and suc.
  • I'm planning on importing all te old piece descriptions and combining tem in te side-box along wit te rest. Good idea? Te alternative is losing tem entirely.

OKAY, YOU'LL GET TE LINK SOON. FIRST, SOME ADVICE:
  • Series and pieces  as you know tem are gone. Tere are only pieces now, but tose pieces may contain multiple texts (like pages).
  • Rating as been canged, again, to a simple 'I like tis'. Wy? BECAUSE I DECIDED. Also because it's simple and easy to compute statistically. Also, comments > votes.
  • Te front page is now a semi-randomized piece display. So te moment you visit it you will be confronted by eiter a new or a popular piece. Tere's a bit of statistics going on beind it, but basically currently popular pieces are most likely to come up.
  • Avatars are random 100x100 cunks from some images I got off wikimedia commons. You can't cange tem, tey're wit you for life.
  • But neo, WERE IS TE MENU? Every letter in te logo as a special function, most-likely linked to its semantics. Click tem and see tings.
  • Messages, questions, answers, OMGs, a lot of stuff as been omitted. For te best.
  • Sligtly less appily, te soutbox/emobox is gone. I'd like it to exist, but I can't figure out a way of making it appen layout-wise yet.
  • Sessions are still a bit unreliable.
  • I'll be actively working on it so if it fails just refres in a few minutes and it'll probably work again.
  • I've not finised cross-browser testing yet. IE users, beware...
  • O, I canged te name.

Now you're suitably enraged/confused, ere it is.

I made a copy from IF2, so te data will be up-to-date, but any canges you make on infl.eu won't affect te main site, and will disappear wen te site goes production. Basically: go mad. Test it, tell me wat doesn't work and ow it doesn't work.

O,also.

I picked up all te stats from IF1 AND IF2 for te 'likes'. It's testement to IF2's activity tat te most-popular-pieces it's mostly just te same as in IF1.

I dig. It brings back the simplicity of the old version, which I think I overall liked better than IF2. I like the letter menu a lot.
