Help me put together a winter-themed mixtape!

So I'm making this mixtape for someone special, but so far I've got only the following handful of songs I can actually use:

Weakerthans - Civil Twilight
Apples In Stereo - Winter Must Be Cold
Bon Iver - The Wolves (Act I And II)
Casiotone For The Painfully Alone - Cold White Christmas/New Year's Kiss
Animal Collective - Winter Wonder Land
Au Revoir Simone - Fallen Snow

...You get the idea. Any song within the broader "indie" spectrum of music that carries a wintery message in some or other way is what I'm looking for. Also, suggestions for song order. All much appreciated!

heres what I have in my collection with just the word winter in the title (i omitted songs you already had)

The Cold Swedish Winter - Jens Lekman (melancholic singer/songwriter) **
Winter's Wolves - The Sword  (heavy instrumental / metal)
Winter - Mum (experimental electronic)
Winter in St. Moritz - Panda Bear (The guy from animal collective)
Winter Now - Broadcast (chill indie) **
Winter Shaker - Oneida (Drone rock)
Winter Song - Nico (baroque stringsy indie) **
WinterWonderland - Cocteau Twins (just their version of the xmas song)
Winterlong - Neil Young / Pixies / Smashing Pumpkins (originally a Young song then covered by the other two... i think)
Winters Love - Animal Collective **

and the same thing for snow

Snowball - Test Icicles (punky indie)
Snowden - Doves (melodic indie) **
Snowshow Barbeque - Atom and his Package (lo-fi electroindie) **
Snowsuit Sound - Sloan (rock)
Soft as Snow (but Warm Inside) - My Bloody Valentine (progenitors of shoegaze) **
Velvet Snow - Kings of Leon (southern rock)
The Fox in the Snow - Belle & Sebastian (melodic indie) **
Don't Eat the Yellow Snow - Frank Zappa (crazy prog) **
Fifteen Feet of Pure white Snow - Nick cave and the Bad Seeds (bluesy indie similar to Tom Waits)
Crying Just for Snow - French Kicks (indie rock)

The starred songs are ones that I recommend but i would check out and listen to all of them...

good list... i've listened to half of them and heard of all the bands except 19, 20 and 12...

and no Atom either... oh well...

good mix anyways... kinda want to listen to it...

well yeah i knew that... i was just hoping you would throw a complete curveball in there...

that's what I would do... but i like weird music like zappa and atom...

maybe have it last as a bonus track... but yeah it would have completely ruined the mood of everything else...

i have never made mixes but i feel like i should, with how much i love music and the wide variety of music i listen to... i would prolly be good at it...

You should! I don't get to do it that much because so little people around me are receptive of the idea. Sometimes friends ask me to just throw a couple of hundred of songs together into an mp3 cd, but where's the fun in that? A mixtape is a collection of songs personally chosen by the creator to purvey a relevant message, and therefore should never be random.

I always make mix-cds for people. Granted, I use MP3s, but I burn it like a regular audio CD so it has its limitations of about 70 minutes or so. I should post some of the ones I have made; they are very nice.
