IF is still primarily a hobbyist project for me. I am not an engineer driven by functionality, I am an artiste!

Plus, I have to keep myself interested, else less will get done. Little conceptual games such as this are a way of doing that.

Furthermore, it's a pretty important part of the site. If IF were just a way people could post bits of writing on the internet, IF1 would be more than sufficient. The vision of IF has a big stake in community, and fleshing out the real characters of the site with diary entries is important in making the site a place people want to exist.

I'll not be working so hard on IF2 in the next week, due to (my last) exam revision.

I understand that it is a hobby and that it takes a lot of time to code a unique site solo...

I was just giving you a hard time, good job on the current site and I hope all goes well with your final final and any future IF2 coding you will do...

Today I mostly thought about how I was going to do the whole user journal thing.

I decided that an ordinary journal wasn't pretentious enough for the likes of us, and so, I decided I would try to imitate a REAL journal.

So this journal is organised in pages of 60 columns and 40 lines. You cannot go over this limit, but you can move onto the next page. There are no titles of pages as such, but you can make a 'heading' (there will be an index of headings automatically generated) by typing "{{THISISMYHEADING}}". You can delete pages, but this has the same drawbacks of tearing out pages in diaries: you might tear out the end of a previous journal entry. You could go back and blank (scribble) out the entry, but you end up with blank space. You cannot insert pages.

Also: as you are typing on a page, whenever the site detects that you've stopped typing, it will save automatically, even if you're not done. This will mean that people can 'watch' you writing the entry, if they so choose. You can mark the entry as complete by submitting the form when you are done.

Easy to use? Nope. Senseful? Yes. Recently I've been rather intrigued by the idea of coding things such that they work like real life objects. Plus, these kind of restrictions aid creativity, and can be interesting in ways I hadn't envisaged...

that makes me think of this webzine:

http://www.antidull.com/index.html

if you go look at the magazines the pages actually turn like a magazine. I like just sitting there and flipping the pages and oggling it like a housewife oggles the shiny things her husband occasionally brings her home to appease her.

Today message list, message viewing, message deletion, all got done.

Spent a couple of days reorganising the code about a week back.

It's not a good gauge of progress, but there are currently 16 tasks done and 11 not done. Of the not done tasks, 2 are marked small (less than half an hour's work), 5 are marked medium (half a day's work), 3 are marked large (a day or so's work)
