Which arises a question, and I apologize for slightly vearing from the initial topic, but exactly how many sub-genres of techno are there?

I don't get genres when it's to do with techno/electronica. I listen to IDM, that's the only one I actually know the name for.

speakers are good but headphones are better.
at least if you have good headphones.
here is my reason - i love mr bungle. first i loved mike patton, then i discovered all of his other bands.
anyways, i purchased disco volante and listened to it a whole lot, in my car and stereo at home and whatnot, and then after a few weeks of love i moved to something else. after a while though i went back to it, this time with my headphones on - and it was like listening to a whole other album.
the lack of ambient noise messing with the sound, the higher clarity - eveything was better. the song desert search for techno allah had a whole other verse/chorus i didn't know existed.
since that point if i've ever wanted to listen, really listen, to an album it's headphones all the way.
for just casual listening, speakers are fine though.

Ironypills, you just spawned the first instance of a topic taking an on-topic turn over an off-topic one, be amazed people, be amazed.

It was an clip on how to be a better parent. There are heaps of them and they're like "If a child asks you a question like 'how many leaves are there on that tree?' Don't say 'I have no fucking idea you little shit' say... '4736'..one falls off... '4735'."

Ok well not EXACTLY liike that. But it's pretty close. It's done by these two really smiley psychologist people.

I think it is because every New Zealander, without exception, beats their children. I am sure this happens in other countries too.

But not you neoeno, you have shown one of the GOOD parenting skills, and for that, I salute you.

On a more on-topic-ish note: I like techno which still has an element of well.. interestingness? If it's just bass, beeping and stupid drumming for 12 minutes, that's boring, but if it has Lyrics that branch out from random sentences, and perhaps a climatic ..er..part, then it is all good. Hmm, so maybe I don't like techno after all? I have lost track of whatever point I was trying to make.

And on a more original on-topic-ish note: Uh.. go speakers.
"WHERE ARE THE GRIT LORRIES?!" Ahahah.

It really depends on the quality of the speakers or headphones and where you're at.  If it's late at night, or if you're in a car with other folks who don't really appreciate your tunes, then headphones are generally your best bet.  If you've got the house to yourself, or it's the kind of music that just needs to be real loud, go with speakers.

I prefer headphones, because I like having the music go straight into my brain, I enjoy music the most when I concentrate entirely on it, like during long drives.

If I had my way, I would grab my old 80's jukebox (the GIANT ones that people used to carry on one shoulder) and blare whatever hell-music I have on my cassettes (I record my iPod onto cassettes using a radio-transmitter playing on a cassette recorder). But, since society is so uptight about what material penetrates its security-bubble, I like to stick with studio-style headphones (once again, following the trend of GIANT). They're comfy and warm and orange (a plus) and fangirls keep asking me things about something called Shaman King or whatever (not that I'm complaining).

non-convoluted reply: headphones because I have to

A note: it is not okay to use your iPod radio transmitter to overlay the uptight couple's car radio's classical station with Hyphy rap. Funny, yes. But not okay

Speakers by far, no matter what the kid with his 30GB iPod with only 500MB filled up says.
