So, I got an offer from an advertising company, offering me $25 a month for putting a couple of textual ads on the bottom of every page on IF. Here is an example of what they look like:

They don't seem very intrusive, and they aren't contextual (so you'll rarely be interested in them). Seems like the advertising company are trying to bump the google ranking of some sites.

Got any thoughts? I don't really want to go ahead with something like this without consulting y'all about it.

Totally. But the money goes right back into the site. Not that you can do much with 25 bucks a month, but its a start.

I would love to get to the point where indyfluency can make its own money, in the indie way (with t-shirts and such), and that money can go into doing cool projects (like... publishing an indyfluency anthology or even an album or something). But I have a grand vision, and it would be tough to realize.

$25 a month would more than cover the hosting fee, I think it costs me... £50ish a year? I think I'd have around £100 spare afterwards, given the rough exchange rate of £1=$2.

Also, I guess I don't mind the ads, so long as they're relatively unobtrusive easy to ignore.

'cuz seriously, nothing sucks the mental image conjured by a beautiful piece quite like flashing text and a bunch of ducks flying by that you're supposed to shoot three of for a free ringtone.

Not entirely sure. It might go towards t-shirts (subsidising the cost so that I can put in an order without having enough people to buy them all).
