Come on, everyone has a few.

Mine would have to be Anne Rice, Poppy Z Brite, Chuck Palahniuk, Irvine Welsh and Garth Nix.

oh gosh. i like chuck palahniuk but he's basically the only person in every scene kids "books" section on myspace, right next to "the perks of being a wall flower".

recently i've been enjoying schrodinger's ball by adam felber. it's good.

Oh, I know. I know. Thanks to Panic! At The Disco (as much as I actually love them).

Oh, jeez ... so many.

My favorite book of all time is Sophie's World by Jostein Gaarder. Based on that, one can infer that I like both Bertrand Russell and Lewis Carroll. From that dichotomy, I can go on to discuss St. Augustine and Nietzsche on one end, and Edgar Allen Poe and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle on the other side. Those genres recombined to influence modern sci-fi and fantasy (not the crappy kind, either -- I'm talking Arthur C. Clarke, Kurt Vonnegut, H.G. Wells, Ray Bradbury, all of our century's most incredible short fiction authors). Also, while I don't really consider myself a fantasy fan (my first fantasy book was The Colour of Magic by Terry Pratchett, who I found by way of Douglas Adams, so it's only for the sake of British humor that I could stand it at all to begin with), I do enjoy reading things like Piers Anthony and Terry Brooks (and even the occasional Mercedes Lackey ... it's like cotton candy for the brain). Tragically, I'm named after Tanith Lee, who wrote one good book (The Silver Metal Lover) and about six zillion really, really crappy fantasy/horror works.

I've also read Animorphs religiously since #2 - The Visitor came out in bookstores. I collected every single book in the series, reread them over the years, and finally gave all of them away to a new young reader about a week ago. I STILL LOVE ANIMORPHS.

... that's all I can think of right now.

George Orwell
Jack London
Ernest Hemingway

meh... Orson Scott Card, I guess (Enders Game)...

I haven't been reading much lately, so I know I'm forgetting some which really bugs me. Also, some authors only wrote one book I liked (What other books besides Catch 22 did Joseph Heller write??)..

Ooh, yeah, Catch 22 and Ender's Game were both great. That reminds me, I forgot to mention that I really like Godel, Escher, Bach.

As long as I'm remembering random books I forgot to mention before, I'm really having a mental craving today for Lord of the Flies.

girls are pretty is an amazing website. the author, bob powers, has quickly won his way into my heart. his site features a very short stories informing you of what's going to happen on every weekday. some are funny, some are sad, some are amazing and enlightening and others are less than par but at the very least hilarious (what can you expect when you write a short story every day for 3+ years?). i strongly suggest it. read. my favorite is fill your pockets with glitter and confetti and then step in front of a speeding bus day.

I like Maurice Gee. Who is a New Zealand writer. He writes kids books and adults books. They're both good.

Your link is broken. I'm a geek, so I made it work for me, but just so everyone knows, fix the beginning to look normal and kill the quote at the end ... (I have Happy Cruelty Day friended on MySpace, and I'm madly in love with those holidays ... :D )

Hmm... I recognize a couple of those authors. What books of Anne Rice and Phillip Pullman did you read?

By the way, I just remembered an author that I kind of like... has anyone ever heard of Nick Sagan?

Let's see, well, I own the first 4 books of the Vampire Chronicles, Blood & Gold and Pandora.
And I have the His Dark Materials Trilogy in a boxset, which I love to death. Some of the best books I've ever read.  :)

Well. . . I just bought idlewild. I usually don't like sci-fi but it seemed interesting.  And I'll admit I only looked at it because I thought they meant that movie that Outkast made(I never ended up seeing it :(

Anyway. . . I like Kafka, Fitzgerald, Salinger(except Catcher in the Rye), Dickens and Kerouac.  But I read all kinds of stuff.  I really like 50's Pulp. . .
