Mmm...I read the sequel to Fear and Loathing, and a few pages of F&L itself. To be honest, I wasn't impressed. Aside from what I think of his character and personality, I find his writing impossible to follow, too random, and weighed down with trivia. He also seems like he's a little in love with seeing his words written down. Not there's anything wrong with that in itself, but it makes him come across excessively verbose, if you see what I mean.

I've read Fear AND Loathing

it was good (though not god). Can't say I agree with Kluny completely, but I can see where the comments come from.
I enjoyed it, but I suppose its a matter of taste.

Fear and loathing, The Rum Diaries, and his journalism compilations are also good if you don't want to follow a storyline.

I've been yearning for the Curse of Lono but it's nearly fifty bucks and an order that would take forever to come in.
I hear production of a Rum Diaries movie is in the works too

Which might be the case since he's the only one currently in the cast list...

all I know otherwise is that it's being released sometime in 2009

That really wouldn't make sense, as the character in Rum Diaries is in his early twenties... Depp really nailed it as Raoul Duke, though, no question there.

Like Johnny couldn't pull off early twenties. Like, without even changing his clothes or wearing makeup.

I'm not saying he couldn't, I just hate it when the movie industry casts people of a way off age for a part, most of the times for nothing more than looks or celeb status.

There's this Flemish movie about an autistic highschooler in our cinemas nowadays; the boy is played by a 29-year-old. WHAT. THE. FUCK.

needless to say, if he does play a lead part, it'll bring an unwanted amount of attention to something that's way beyond disney

I couldnt' stand Johnny palying lead. he'd have to be a dynamic character who learns and matures, and that's no fun at all.

haha, looking back on the story itself, there is an ideal older man who gets it in the end. but then heartfelt fans would be horrified if their prodigy died in malice...which makes me want to see their stunned faces even more.
