IF2 Suggestions

Hey. I just wrote a sizeable amount for this topic, and then firefox died.

So, basically. Post your suggestions here. If you have posted them elsewhere, post them here again. Any off-topic posts will be removed, for otherwise stuff will get lost in a haze of other stuff, and this topic will be of no use to me.

I may re-write my ideas for IF2, another time, when I am less arghed.

sorry to hear that neo... really sucks...

anyways heres my suggestions from the other thread... I am taking the lazy way out and copy/pasting them...

Why people don't vote?
I think it is partially a promotion of voting thing and partially a laziness of those involved... I dunno, i run out of votes every day (being a new kid) when i go back and look over old pieces and w/e... maybe other people aren't as excited about posting and commenting as I am...

I also think that if there were a better list of all the posts (without having to search and leave the box blank) it might make it easier for people to view the old pieces and give them some votes... Also if you post something, and then by chance 10 more pieces are posted relatively quickly people might have not even seen your post because they were not on the site for the short time that it was up on the recent pieces page... Or if i don't come to the site for a week it might be a bit of a pain to try and catch up with everything that has happened since i last visited...

I was also thinking that you could have ways to narrow the list of pieces down... a filter instead of a search... filters could include

length of piece
part of a series?
posted before / after
at least x votes

you could also include a bunch of simple descriptors for if a user wants to look at a particular type of piece

funny
imagery poem
sad
cannibalistic

another idea is to feature a piece every day on the main page... maybe with a little profile of the writer of something... this way, you keep getting exposed to new pieces and you can check out other stuff by an author you like a little easier...

maybe a user statistics list too... be able to look at everyone, pieces, 'vottage', level, etc.

just random thoughts as im procrastinating typing up a piece to add to the site...

Man, I only just spotted this thread.

So yeah, in response of aether...

I'm pretty sure neo's workin' on at least a couple of those ideas... I think...

But yeah, tose all sound great.  Especially that Piece of the Day thing, though something like that might call for a couple actual staff members.  I'm thinkin' that eventually, neo's gonna have to enlist some help.

Though he shouldn't have any lack of volunteers.

I'd like to see short synopses (synopsises?  synopsi?  you know what I mean, ha) of a story before I click on it.  I don't read every piece that I see because sometimes the title doesn't interest me, and I know that I'm missing out on some great stories and poems.  Is that possible, at all? 

And also, piece of the day is a rockin' idea.  I like it.

there should be a chat room or something a little more real time than the chatterbox... cause right now there are 5 people on the forum and I really have no way to talk to them... and I wish to do so merely because it allows me to continue procrastinating...

I really need to be able to use italics in my poems. I don't know if there's a way to do that that I haven't caught on to yet, buut my art is suffering. Please, neo, please do something.

a small thing i just noticed...

on the personal message page, can the messages be ordered by most recent at the top so you dont have to scroll down all of them to see the one you just got?

also maybe make the submit message window a little bigger...

oooh... and being able to have the forward or backward through a series at the top, so if you forget the previous one you don't have to scroll all the way down... and a forward/backward through pieces chronologically, so when you haven't been to the site in 2 days or summat, you can just read all the new posts without using the LBT every time...

I think A* votes should regenerate weekly, instead of daily, to raise them to a higher level.
